yeah, I thought that was pretty dickish, too.
My first reaction was “laugh it up, Kimbo.”
No denying, though, he was damn impressive in that fight.
Which one is Lesnar?
The one who rides the other dude then points and laughs at him.

Even better was after the fight when he was mocking Herring by using the imaginary lasso to rope him in.
Lesnar will be one of the great heels in UFC history if he keeps improving his game. He needs to kill Chieck Kongo in his next fight, and slowly get built up for a fight with either Nogueira, (if he returns) Couture, or (if he ever signs with them) Fedor. That would approach Ortiz/Liddell numbers.
Ask and ye shall receive.
And you’re right on all counts. Though they should take their sweet time with a fight against Nogueira – no way is he ready for his Jiu-Jitsu.
True, but you don’t want to risk a second loss for Lesnar. Unless you think, with you being the UFC, that Lesnar is going to get to a point where he can actually handle that kind of BJJ skill, your best bet is to give him one or two more fights to let him beat on guys like Herring, and then go for the mega-fight. At least that way if he loses to Nog or someone like that you can probably still get a couple more fights from him. But if you try to work him up the ladder and he runs into a Werdum or Gonzaga and he loses, his marketability might be shot for good.
I say Coleman, then Kongo, then one of the big three.
If we’re following the reasoning you provided, then I say no way to those two names. Rather, I’d suggest Jake O’Brien (whose primary and some would say only skill is in wrestling; a guy Lesnar can easily out-wrestle) and then some other schmuck. Coleman is an old joke…meaning Lesnar SHOULDN’T have trouble with him, but God forbid something should happen and suddenly Lesnar looks like an even bigger joke than Kimbo Slice.
Kongo’s dangerous and has shown over the past year that he has a very scary learning curve. If we’re talking about building Lesnar up, you want to keep him as far away from Kongo as possible for the time being.
The point, however, is moot. Dana White has been intent from the beginning on NOT giving Lesnar a pass on anything, hence the class of his first two opponents (anybody else getting Frank Mir and then Heath Herring for their first two fights would have some folks crying foul). Lesnar’s not going to get any sort of pass from UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, nor does he want one.
I’m not sold on Kongo, but he looks impressive as hell, and the fight would sell well based on physiques. Coleman still has name value, but I think he’d be a good matchup for Lesnar. And hey, if Coleman does beat Lesnar, you’ve instantly got Couture part 2, as you can shoot him to a topcard match as the valiant old warrior going for one last shot at the top.
I agree though he won’t get a pass, but there’s no reason to put him in against the worst possible opponents for his skill set. Kongo is a legit matchup, and Coleman like you said could pull something out on him. I just worry they’ll do something dumb like Lesnar v. Werdum, Werdum will win and still mean very little to the general MMA-watching populace.
I don’t think they’d bother matching him up with Werdum, not only for reasons you cited but because Werdum’s more or less already earned a title shot and should be in line. In fact, I think the only reason they offered Herring to Lesnar is that Herring already had a loss to Nogueira; Werdum is the only fight that makes sense for Nog after he beats Mir.
Man, F that guy.
He got that one awesome punch, which I will admit impressed me. Then he went lay n pray. Until he finishes someone he’s Tim Sylvia.
I give him credit by way of actually giving Herring some credit – Heath can take a punch, and was taking some really vicious heavy-handed strikes to the side of the head for a good portion of the fight.
And hey, we may not like the gameplan, but being Tim Sylvia ain’t too bad of a thing, ya know?
He’s still gunshy about getting subbed. That seemed obvious. Plus he still has no clue what to do when an opponent gives up their back.
If Lesnar learns even some submission skills he’ll be even scarier. But for last night’s fight the strategy worked just fine for him.
And as KM said, being Tim Sylvia, one of the 5-6 best HW in the world, isn’t too bad. And Lesnar’s ceiling is still much higher.
