8 Resolutions/Goals for 2010

For the life of me, I keep forgetting to post my “Favorite 80 Films of the Decade.” It’s literally written and ready to go, and is a simple copy-and-paste job. Unfortunately, it’s on my Macbook at home. Seeing as how we’re being let out early (at 2:00pm), you may see that post later this afternoon.

In the meantime, I decided to go against my nature and actually make New Year’s Resolutions/Goals for 2010. I’m using the term “Resolutions/Goals” in light of a recent conversation I had with folks over Twitter who took issue with the idea of “Resolutions,” saying they prefer instead to make goals. Even though they differ on technicalities, I think in many cases they can be the same thing. But again, technically we’re talking about two entirely different creatures: Resolutions as more of a definite yes/no proposition, whereas Goals are a destination you strive towards.

My apprehension towards New Year’s Resolutions, however, were always more cynical than logical.  I didn’t make them because I saw so many other people make them and not reach them. I also prefer to think of myself as a work in progress, making major life changes and choices (such as quitting smoking, losing weight, etcetera) as they’re needed and/or when I’m ready to challenge myself, rather than waiting for an arbitrary date or celebration to push me to it.

Although really, that’s just my way of churching up my cycnicism and egomania.

I’m putting an end to that – albeit temporarily – and doing Resolutions/Goals for 2010. Because why the Hell not?

RESOLUTION/GOAL #1:
ACT, EVEN IF JUST FOR ONE NIGHT, IN NEW YORK CITY

It’s really not that big of a feat, but I’d like to get some experience outside of this immediate area, and outside the realm of people I’ve gotten to know in the past year. Plus, I still want to end up in New York City anyway on a permanent basis at some point.

RESOLUTION/GOAL #2:
GET ON THE BILL FOR ANOTHER SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL

The deadline for Confetti Stage’s 6th Annual Short Play Festival is February. Have to get moving on that one!

RESOLUTION/GOAL #3:
FINISH & FINALIZE DEAL TO GET A FULL-LENGTH VERSION OF FOREBEARS OF BAD NEWS (my entry for the 2009 Short Play Festival in Albany) PRODUCED IN 2011

In both cases, closer than you might think. No details until all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted with little girly hearts.

RESOLUTION/GOAL #4:
RUN IN AN ACTUAL 5K RACE

Yesterday, I ran further uninterrupted than I’ve ever run before, doing a 5K on a treadmill in 27:10 with an average speed of 6.5 mph. Now that I know it’s physically possible for me (after quitting smoking 16 months ago and keeping my weight at a steady 148-151 pounds since August), it’s time to really put the work in to get myself down to 21:00 and enter myself into an actual race.

RESOLUTION/GOAL #5
START MY OWN MMA BLOG

Mixed Marshall Arts? It’s comin’, folks.

RESOLUTION/GOAL #6
START SWIMMING

It’s a total body workout, and I just about know how to swim and that’s it. Time to pull the trigger on making it part of my routine (even if it’s just a weekly or bi-weekly thing).

RESOLUTION/GOAL #7
ALLOW MYSELF TO FALL IN LOVE, UNCONDITIONALLY
Because everyone should, and it’s time.

RESOLUTION/GOAL #8
BE MORE POSITIVE

YES!

Alright folks, let’s hear some of yours.

I’m going to continue working on my 101 in 1,001 project, most of my “goals” are included in that.

To see them go visit my page!

Wow you have some good goals! Yay 🙂 I may just have to give you my cynical website/blog. One of my goals is not to bitch so much on FB/Twitter, but save it for my own very special place.

I will admit some will be very bitch-like, but hey, everyone is entitled to be bitch-like on occasion!

    So, let’s see…

#1. Continue to journal/blog, but this time keep it consistent. Maybe make a nicer looking blog page, even though I hate to web design as I get too “into” it and it takes forever!!
#2. Again, continue to gym 3-4 times weekly, working up to 5-6 times. I want to try for a 5K later in the year, but nothing close to a 20 minute goal. Mine is more 30 minutes.
#3. Audition without reservations (That’s a tough one!)
#4. Be a better person in my relationship with Mat.
    #5. Be a better friend.

Notice none of this lose weight, stop biting my nails crap. Those are things I should be doing (trying to do) every day! I’m already really positive & optimistic (most of the time), it’s time to be more realistic & cynical. I’ve never done that! Time to try. LOL!

    My goal this year?

    Feed Kevin Marshall more cookies.

  4. December 31, 2009 at 1:01 pm

    ~ Be financially independent again
~ Also, I agree with you on falling in love unconditionally. Either in 2010 or the decade. tired of being alone on my own accord.

      Here, here.

    • December 31, 2009 at 9:14 pm

And man, I really should read more myself. The time I put aside for leisure reading is literally non-existent.

Ooh, I’m excited to hear a full-length version of the play is in the works! I’m excited to see it!

My resolution for 2010 is to read more (I got back into reading more in 2009, and found I really enjoy it). I’m also re-working my 101 goals in 1001 days list right now, and will post that soon. I need to come up with my last 20 goals!

    • December 31, 2009 at 9:15 pm

The 101 goals in 1001 Days thing – Cute Ella (above) is working on the same thing. My hats off to both of you – for me, that’s just too daunting. I feel like I’d just get lost in such a big list.

I’m using it half to focus myself and half to come up with things I want to do for the first time or set aside time for. So, my list is half things I have planned to do around the house, but need to put aside time for, and half fun/new/improvement/goal things.

ok, I just read her blog and hers is WAY more abitious than mine!!

      • January 3, 2010 at 2:58 am

        I know right?! She’s outta control! 🙂

  6. December 31, 2009 at 3:55 pm

I’m challenging you to up the ante on one of your goals: sign up for a 10K instead of a 5K. I just went through my list of 2009 goals and one of them was to run a 5K. I don’t remember writing this, but I ran my first race (a 10K) in October, and I’m feeling like a total stud now for doubling what I thought was a tough goal. My mile’s nowhere near your 7-9 minute goal range, but I survived. You can absolutely do a 6.2!

    • December 31, 2009 at 9:16 pm

We’ll see! I’ve already committed to doing a 5K in the Spring with a couple friends of mine. Maybe a 10K IS in my future. We’ll see!

(part of my thing is – I also want to WIN a 5K)
