Carano vs. Cyborg
“Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” is live tonight on Showtime. I won’t be watching due to obligations I made to others, and my interest in this show is more on the side of what a farce it became, particularly with Nick Diaz running away from a drug test and refusing to answer the State Athletic Commission’s phone calls and thus resulting in Jay Hieron fighting Jesse “He’d Be Hilarious If He Weren’t So Sad” Taylor.
But hey, it doesn’t look like it’ll be an absolute disaster, so if you’re not doing anything tonight and have Showtime, why the Hell not watch it?
Quick & Dirty Predictions:
Jay Hieron (17-4) vs. Jesse Taylor (13-3)
Prediction: Hieron. Taylor’s a joke inside and outside the Octagon.
Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez (15-2) vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-5-1) for the Strikeforce Interim Lightweight Championship
Prediction: Melendez. This actually could be an interesting fight.
Renato “Babalu” Sobral (35-8) vs. Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) for the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship
Prediction: Mousasi. I can’t believe people are still trying to hype up the perpetually overrated Babalu. I really think people are just wrapped up in his nickname.
Gina Carano (7-0) vs. Cris “Cyborg” Santos for the Strikeforce 145 lb Women’s Championship
Prediction: Cyborg. Both made weight easily with some room to spare. I’m not sure why they don’t just call it a Featherweight bout, except to note that they probably don’t have enough women fighters to have more than two weight divisions (if that). Cyborg, by the way, is a frightening woman with a complete game and she’s going to most likely destroy Carano.
