De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7 – Episode 1

Updated 4/23/07

EPISODE 2 NOW POSTED

Prepare yourselves for the single greatest hype special ever created. Not enough can be said for how well this is done.

The hype specials for the De La Hoya/Mayweather fight on May 5th will be airing in four half-hour installments on HBO. The first episode has already aired, with the second premiering tonight after Entourage.

Fortunately for those of us who don’t have HBO, there’s YouTube. Considering the amount of money that hinges on the success of this pay-per-view, HBO Sports would be foolish to go after whomever is posting these for free on the internet. Everyone needs to see this special, whether they’re a fan of MMA, boxing, pro wrestling, or any other combat sport (legitimate or no).

I’ll be providing links to each installment as they’re posted over the next several weeks.

This fight is going to make a million billion dollars. Of course, there is NOTHING on the horizon in the next 10 years for boxing that could even come within 1/5 of what this will do, but they won’t care. At least for 2007 they will still have the biggest PPV of the year.

Oh, of course. But it won’t stop some anti-MMA boxing fans from shouting to the Heavens about how the UFC can’t top it, regardless of the fact that boxing itself won’t be able to top it, quite possibly ever again.

I would say that it is very likely this is the last time that a boxing match has the biggest PPV of a year for the next 10-15 years.

That said, I just watched 24/7, and good god I want Oscar to win that fight now. I was on the fence about my own purchase of it, but that sealed it.
