Don’t walk too far to the right.

Strange dream last night.

In the dream, I got a phone call saying that they had two vacancies in an apartment in New York City that needed to be filled, and the landlord wanted my brother and I to fill it. So we moved in, and the apartment was very spacious. It was us and one other guy, three bedrooms with plenty of room. It was really anything you could ask for in an apartment in New York City, and the kicker was that we were living there rent-free. We didn’t have to pay for utilities, even.

The apartment was located in what appeared from the outside to be a warehouse, and was in a slightly dilapidated but trendy industrial area. Really, I couldn’t ask for anything more. Then, I encountered the catch. For some odd reason, if you went more than a block in either direction, you were leaving New York City. If you went out the front door and turned right, you ended up in Albany. If you went out the front and took a left, you ended up back in Troy. Exiting the rear of the building immediately put you in Menands. Once you were in these areas, you couldn’t just turn around and end up back at the apartment – you had to travel all the way back downstate to return.

I remember in the dream being heartbroken, and saying “what a cruel thing to do. It’s just so cruel to give someone an opportunity like this, the chance to live rent-free in an apartment in New York City, and limit how far you can go in either direction.”

I woke up on the couch at 9:00am, still in my work clothes and with my contacts in. A good amount of crust had developed on my eyes.

This week just needs to end.

More later…
