Ex-Marlins Pick Recovering from Another Heroin OD

From the article:

It appears the sad saga of Florida Marlins pitching prospect Jeff Allison has taken another negative turn.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Allison suffered a second heroin overdose on Monday.

The newspaper obtained a report from Medford police, which claimed that Allison was found lying unconscious on the bathroom floor of a two-story home Monday afternoon. Heroin was cited as the cause of Allison’s condition.

Allison, 21, was taken to Winchester Hospital and released the same day, according to the newspaper.

A first-round pick of the Marlins in 2003, Allison was suspended by the team in March.

Allison nearly died in July 2004 after overdosing on heroin. He later admitted to the Boston Globe that he was addicted to the painkiller OxyContin, which he said he first began using when he was a junior at Peabody High School in Massachusetts.

Wow. I remember reading about the first one a couple years ago, and now this. It’s really sad that a guy can be given such a golden opportunity and have it go to waste like that. Well, perhaps it’s more telling of the addictive nature of the drug itself.

And man, TWO heroin overdoses? He’s damn lucky he’s still alive.

Oh yeah, haven’t been updating lately, have I? I’ll try to fix that.

More later…

You know, while he’s drying out he should read everything he can gets his hands on about Len Bias. Being in Boston, that should be a lot of material. He’s too young to remember, and maybe the lesson won’t be lost on him.
